Well, since I last spoke about what I’m reading, I’ve torn through a bunch more books! Even though we stream TV all year round now, for some reason I think I’m conditioned to read like crazy in the summer. It must be all those school-time “summer reading lists” from the past!

I did finish All the Light We Cannot See by by Anthony Doerr. It was long, and I enjoyed it, but I didn’t really love it, unfortunately. I just had a hard time connecting with the characters, which is funny since they were well-developed. If you like WWII period pieces though, I thought this was a very interesting story overall.
From there, I read a book by one of my favorite “chick lit” authors (I sort of hate that term, but it really does fit). I needed something light to breeze through after the previous book, so I read The One and Only by Emily Giffin. You may remember her from writing Something Borrowed which was then turned into a movie. This was, by far, my least favorite of her books, but still, ultimately enjoyable and exactly what I was looking for – something easy and quick to read!
After that, I read The Glass Castle, a memoir by Jeannette Walls. This book was truly amazing! The writing was phenomenal, in my opinion; Walls really makes you feel that you’re there with her. It’s truly incredible that this is a true story! Certainly makes my life look 100% boring in comparison! Ha!
I just finished (as in last night), Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. This was another winner for me! Wonderfully developed story and characters – I couldn’t put this one down. It’s a love story (of first love) of two teenagers (who are a fairly unlikely couple). It was really moving, even a bit tragic at times, but overall just one of those books that leaves a lasting impression.
Next up on my reading list, is a book by another one of my favorite authors – Liane Moriarty. I’ve read pretty much everything she’s written except this – What Alice Forgot (and also her latest, Truly, Madly, Guilty which was just published a few months ago – I’m currently on the waiting list for that at the library!). Moriarty has written other bestsellers like The Husband’s Secret and I’ve really adored all of her books, so I have high hopes for this current one as well!
As I’ve mentioned in my “About Me” page, I’m also a HUGE fan of TV (this is actually an understatement – my dream is write a screenplay one day, or really write a book that they option for a movie!).
But anyway, back to “currently watching.” I’m really (no pun intended) into UnREAL currently that airs on Lifetime. I binged the first season on Hulu a couple months ago and I knew season 2 was just about to air. I couldn’t wait for it to come out on Hulu, and since we don’t have cable (only streaming services), I totally cashed in some of my Amazon credits to buy the entire season up front, so I could watch it weekly. Such a guilty pleasure! I was super excited to see Constance Zimmerman nominated for an Emmy too! (tv/movie awards are like my Super Bowl!)
The husband is currently enjoying Ray Donovan on Amazon Prime. I only sort of half watch. It seems well acted and the story is interesting, but it’s one of those shows that I wouldn’t be heartbroken to miss either.
I am excited for Fall TV to return! I’ll have a whole separate post on new shows I’m excited for, but some of my returning favorites include: The Walking Dead, Modern Family, The Middle, Grey’s Anatomy (I just can’t give this one up!), Last Man on Earth, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
What about all of you? What shows do you like? Any good summer reads on your bookshelf (virtual or literal)??
