Happy Friday, everyone!
Let me start by saying, a beauty blog, this is not. I am definitely NO expert on anything beauty – I mean, I can barely manage putting Brynn’s hair in a ponytail for gymnastic! I’m going to have to outsource to friends and family when she’s old enough to wear makeup (which will be never, of course! Ha!), just so someone can properly show her how to do it!
But, that being said, I definitely like beauty products, even if I’m not terribly proficient with using them! So, from a non-beauty blogger perspective, here are some of my favorite things lately, currently in my “beauty rotation!”
ONE. I’ve blogged here about my journey with the Arbonne 30 Day Challenge, in an effort to eat and feel better. In addition to the nutrition line that Arbonne has, they also have a large cosmetics and beauty line.
I’ve tried a few of the beauty products, but the one I absolutely fell in love with was the Genius Pads. It’s a retinoid resurfacing treatment that’s designed to help resurface your skin and promote “cell turnover” that ultimately helps to brighten your skin and reduce dark spots. It also helps to firm up your skin as well.
I’ve definitely noticed a significant difference in my skin! It looks brighter and even more youthful!
Tip: You get 60 pads in a container and are supposed to use one nightly, but the Genius Pads are a bit pricey, so I would cut mine in half to make them last. But I’ll all about keeping in real on here, so if I’m honest with this tip, I feel like I saw better results more quickly when I used the whole pad, so I did some l alternating during the week (some nights a full pad, some a half pad).
TWO. My complexion has always been an on-going issue for me. My breakouts have never been super terrible, but enough that it was definitely annoying! I’ve tried lots of over-the-counter treatments and prescription treatments, too. I did finally land on the Philosophy Purity facial cleanser that I’ve really loved for the past few years, but still battled breakouts.
That’s when I read about Curology in a magazine. It’s a completely customized prescription skincare – you take an online survey about your skin, upload photos (sans makeup – eek!), then get paired with a healthcare professional.
I love, love, love that I can always send Laura messages through the Curology site, and give her updates on my skin. I can upload more pictures and tell her how I’m reacting to the medication. Laura has been phenomenal – she writes back super detailed replies, and offers suggestions on what to do differently. Then, she can change my prescription (which lasts 90 days) and fine tune things as needed. All of this for $20 a month!
After using this for about 6 months, my skin has never looked better!
Bonus: There is a 90 day money-back guarantee. 🙂
THREE. I used to be a die-hard Bare Minerals Makeup fan, but it seemed pricey to me, especially once we had kids. Supposedly kids, like, need stuff. 😉
I came across Root, who also sells mineral makeup. At first I was a bit skeptical – as I said, I’m not a beauty expert and I’ve had a hard time over the years finding makeup that works for me, is easy to apply, and looks halfway decent.
Well, let me just say Root makeup looks way more than halfway decent! 😉 It goes on so light and even, and I love that it looks like I’m not wearing any makeup at all.
It is vegan, gluten free, organic, and paraben free. All good things in my book!
Bonus: I’m spending less money and I’m supporting a small business. Plus, you can even earn points for rewards (i.e., $$ off your purchase!). #winwinwin
See? I told you this was not a beauty blog, and I am already out of favorites. 😉
What about you? What are your fav products? I’m always looking for recommendations!
Have a great weekend all!
