Happy New Years Eve, all!
It seems like it’s been forever since I’ve done a Five on Friday! This was intended to be posted yesterday but I wasn’t feeling so hot, so I totally spaced on publishing this. Oops! Oh well…here we go!

one. Christmas was great this year and went by way too fast! Brynn wasn’t that into Christmas at 2 years old (she literally refused to open gifts and didn’t want us to open any for her either!), so I wasn’t sure how Asher would be. Well, Brynn was SUPER jazzed for Christmas morning this year (she woke up multiple times during the night because she was so excited) and her excitement was clearly contagious because Asher went nuts too when he saw all the presents under the tree!
It was really awesome to watch it all unfold!
The only thing that was not the best (read: annoying) was how quickly we have gotten to the “greedy” stage with Brynn. She tore through everything so fast and then she pulled a “that’s it??” after she was done. Clearly we have to work on being a bit more grateful in 2017! 😉
two. We are now in toy overload! As I mentioned in my last post, in 2017 I really have to work on some more storage and organizing solutions for toys.
The other problem is, we now have several VERY LARGE toys in our not-so-large family room/playroom. We have a finished basement, but Jeff has taken that space over as a man cave. I have a feel though, more and more stuff might end up making a migration to that space.
Does anyone else have the Go! Go! SmartWheels from V Tech?? Do you keep the tracks out all the time? Or do you keep them in a big bin and pull it out on occasion? I think we’re going to have to go for the bin idea, not only because of space, but also to help ensure it stays interesting and not just another toy that doesn’t get played with.
three. Speaking of toys that don’t get played with, I did a clean out shortly before Christmas of some of the baby toys that weren’t really getting much action. There are always some toys though that I feel guilty about boxing up since they’re so basic – like blocks, puzzles, and our collection of Fisher Price vehicles likes the School Bus and Airplane.
Does anyone else run into this guilt about packing up toys that get used occasionally but consistently (but not on a daily basis)? I guess I’ll just have to get over it and move some out and try to remember to rotate them back in. 🙂
four. I’m on the lookout for some new jeans. I used to get jeans from Old Navy until they allowed us to wear jeans to work, any day of the week. So last year I got a few pairs from American Eagle. I like the skinnies I purchased from there, so I’m thinking about getting some new ones, but I’m also intrigued with the Articles of Society jeans that I’ve seen some other bloggers mentioned. Specifically I’d love to try these but they’re currently out of stock in my size. 🙁 I heard they sell out quite fast when they are on sale (which they currently are), so I’ll have to keep checking back to see if I can get lucky!
five. I am officially addicted to podcasts. I don’t know how it has taken me so long to get on the podcast bandwagon, but I’m on it and there’s no looking back now!
My favorites currently are (in no particular order):
- Stuff You Should Know
- Stuff Mom Never Told You (And I’m so sad they literally just had their LAST podcast! Thank goodness for the arcives!)
- Young House Love Has a Podcast
- Stuff You Missed in History Class
I have a few that were recommended to my recently as well, that I haven’t listened to just yet, but I thought I would share:
- Backstory with the American History Guys
- Benajmen Walker’s Theory of Everything
- The Moth (This is a storytelling podcast told by different people that I’m super excited to listen to – but be warned, I’ve heard some stories can be quite sad!)
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, Hanuhkah, and any and all holidays you may be celebrating! And Happy New Year!!
