So we are leaving on vacation TOMORROW and I have yet to pack a single item or really do anything except make copious lists about the things I should be packing or doing.
So let’s jump right in, ‘kay? 😉
one. We created a “Behavior Scale” that we have posted on our fridge. It’s
similar to a complete rip off of the one Brynn has at her school. It has 4 colors – Red (Bad!), Yellow/Orange (ours is orange because I didn’t have a yellow marker, but this basically means “you’re on thin ice”), Green (doing great!), and Purple (Super Star!).
Super Stars are the ones that were really good plus helped out during the day, like cleaning up.
It seems to work at school because Brynn is always Super Star or Green. At home…not so much. Sometimes she’s great, and then everyone’s happy. But when she’s ever on Yellow/Orange or Red, I feel like all we do is deal with her FREAKING OUT (read: melting down) that she’s not on Super Star.
I guess it’s a process. We’ll see how things go on vacation because I’m not dragging the Behavior Scale with us!
(Side note: At school they get two mini marshmallows if they are Super Star which is equivalent of kid crack. At home, if she’s a Super Star she gets an extra book at bedtime and a sticker on a sticker chart. Once the chart is filled up she can pick out a small toy at Target. Her favorite store ever. #likemommylikedaughter)
two. Amazon Prime is the best thing ever when you work full time, have two little ones, and you know, just basically feel like you’re losing your mind AND you are going on vacation. Shocking, I know. A blogger who loves Amazon Prime!
I totally loaded up this week on a few last-minute things: shampoo for me, shampoo for the kids (I’m a big fan of the Babyganics brand), portable battery chargers for the iPad (and a couple extra cords as well), and even some mini travel jars (for the products that don’t transfer well to those mini shampoo style bottles, like my CeraVe moisturizer and some hair products).
So thank you for saving the day, once again Amazon! Just a mere two days ago I was panicked, ordering half of dozen items at midnight from your iPad in the bathroom (since I couldn’t sleep, thinking of all the stuff we needed). Today, I came home to the wonderful sight of boxes neatly stacked on my porch! #bestinventionever 🙂
three. Ahhh!! Must pack for vacation!! (Be right back while I throw eleven random things in a bag and feel momentarily better).
four. Speaking of Amazon, does anyone else use the Amazon Echo? We have had “Alexa” (as she’s called) for more than a year now. When
we my husband first order “her,” I was skeptical. It seemed like a very expensive tube to me, that we occasionally would ask to play music or to tell us a joke.
Now we use Alexa for so many things! We use the shopping list feature, where we can add things to our shopping list (that we can then access through the Alexa App on our phones) just by speaking them. So easy! Way better than having to write them down, since we would inevitably forget to bring the list.
My husband also set up a series of smart home products, too. They are pretty neat, so I may do a separate post just on this (maybe I’ll even “interview” to hubs for it!). Now we can use our phones and tablets to turn lights and other certain switches on and off. And we can tell Alexa to turn things on and off too.
We’re basically the Jetsons now. Don’t be jealous! 😉
five. I didn’t think I would really be into the Olympics this year for some reason. We didn’t even watch the opening ceremonies. But now, we seem to have it on all the time. Even Brynn has been excited to watch! There is something oddly soothing about having synchronized diving or the women’s marathon on in the background.
Maybe it’s the announcer’s whispered tones?
Maybe it’s because it we never watch live TV anymore?
Maybe it’s Maybelline? Sorry I had to. Too easy. 😉
OK, well that’s all I got. Now it’s too late and I’m too tired to pack, so I guess I’ll just cram it all in tomorrow. Get it??
Wow, Erin. Seriously, time for bed.
P.S. – I’m going to still to try to post once while I’m away, but I can’t wait to share some pictures from our first vacation as a family of four! Hopefully it’s the first of many! 🙂
