It’s officially been one year since I started blogging! So I thought it was time to give my poor little neglected blog some love! 😉
I thought I would share some random thoughts on what this year in blogging has taught me.
First and foremost, having a blog, even a small one that’s just for fun can be a lot of work! I try to take time every week to think of things I can write about. At any given time over the past year, including right now, I have about two to four posts in “draft” as I work on them gradually before posting. Or, in many cases, I am waiting to fill them with some pictures.
Which certainly leads me to the next thing I learned – I need to get better at taking pictures! And I’m not talking quality (although that is another area I should absolutely work on), but quantity! I was looking through my camera roll recently, and I had taken a bunch of pictures at the playground, then a few random pictures of the kids and our latest improvement project, and then *bam!* pictures of Easter! It’s like I forgot to take any pictures for 2 months. Oops! 😉
On occasion I remember while we’re out and about to take a picture to share on the blog, but more often than not, it completely slips my mind. I’ve never been wonderful at remembering to take pictures (Jeff and I hardly have any of the two of us from over the years), but it’s something I’m hoping I can continue to improve on (why does this feel like an end-of-year self assessment all of a sudden??).
Anyway, I’ve also learned that for me personally, it was hard at times to find “my voice.” I love blogging about our life, our home, and other fun tips and recommendations, but I’ve also struggled with what I want the goal of my blog to be. I think ultimately though, it’s been such a great creative outlet that I’ll continue to write about what makes me happy – even if it’s only the hubs and about 5 other people out there reading it! 😉
Lastly, on a much more positive note, I’ve already had so many great experiences and exchanges in just one short year! I’ve reviewed some amazing children’s books, tested out a new product for a company I already loved, connected with other bloggers, and pushed myself to do something I wasn’t sure I could do – share my thoughts, feelings, and life with others.
Reflecting on what the past year has held has certainly inspired and reinvigorated me to spend more time on my blog again because when it comes down to it, it’s important to me, and that’s what really matters. 🙂
So thank you, dear readers, for a wonderful first year! I am so excited to see what the next year (and years to come) bring! <3
