Phew this week flew by! I’m so ready for the WEEKEND!
Let’s get right to it, shall we?
uno. Some good friends of ours were on vacation a few weeks back, but really it was more of a stay-cation. We met them at the park (they have two girls) the weekend their stay-cation was starting and they shared the most delicious rum punch recipe with us!
Their reasoning – which I am so on board with – is just because they aren’t on a true tropical vacay, they could still partake in a tropical beverage. When our stay-cation started a week later, we totally decided to copy them and have ourselves some rum punch in the evenings.
Man, the first sip of that stuff and I was transported back to Mexico for our honeymoon. It was good!
Also, here’s a quick tip – my friend suggested using just regular rum and then coconut rum instead of the light rum and the Jamaican white rum listed. We also didn’t use the nutmeg or other garnishes. We did, however, totally break out plastic cups with colorful straws so we could really pretend we were poolside in Mexico. 😉
dos. We’ve been making such great progress with painting our dining room and living room – I can’t wait to share before and after photos! To paint the picture for you in the meantime (and since the camera is dead so I can’t transfer the pictures to my phone), both rooms had very orange-y oak trim. The living room was painted a muted yellow, which really accented the oak trim (but not exactly in a good way). The dining room was the same yellow about the chair rail trim and a particularly disturbing shade of orange below. I guess they were going for a tone-on-tone kind of look? It’s a mystery.
So we have painted the trim a beautiful, crisp clean white. We’re doing a light grey in the living room and in the dining room above the chair rail, and then white below the chair rail.
It’s not quite done, but it already looks ah-mazing! The house suddenly looks so updated! Annnnnd it makes the rest of the rooms looks terribly dated so it looks like we have more painting in our future! 😉

tres. Summer really might need to end soon so I stop eating ice cream all the time. I mean, I can eat ice cream just about any time (I will eat it in a box! I will eat it with a fox! I digress!), but something about summer makes me crave it!
cuatro. I’m really all about the italics tonight and I have no idea why!
cinco. Vacation is coming! Vacation is coming!
As I said above, we had a stay-cation a couple weeks ago (really because our at-home daycare was actually on vacation, and therefore closed for the week), but we are going on our first real vacation as a family of four in one week! I’m freaking out a bit.
I’m a bit list-obsessed, so I’ve got multiple lists in full-force!
We are staying in a condo (in the beautiful and completely unique Chautauqua Institution), so we can bring some of our own food for breakfasts and lunches.
I absolutely love Chautauqua! We’ve been going there since I was 5 and it’s just so peaceful. It’s such a hard place to describe and I feel every time I do, I make it sound awfully boring. It really promotes the arts, like dancing, literary art, music, theatre, etc. There’s also a focus on faith and religion (almost every religion, I believe, is represented there) and learning (there are lectures during the day which sounds completely boring but if you love learning like my parents/family do, it’s kind of neat!). There’s nightly entertainment too at an open-air amphitheater.
I think Chautauqua is kind of magical, myself. So quiet and relaxing! I always feel at ease the moment we get there. I love that people walk and ride bikes everywhere, too! (It’s a gated community where cars are not allowed unless entering or leaving).
We took Brynn two years ago when she was 21 months old and I was newly pregnant with Asher. We talked at the time what it would be like to come back in two years (we typically go every other year) with two kids. It seemed so surreal! And yet, it’s so hard to imagine that Asher wasn’t with us back then! (Well, I mean, I guess he was in a way. He certainly made his presence known since I was so sick the entire vacation!).
Anyhoo, that’s it for me tonight! The ice cream is calling to me! 😉
What about all of you? Ready for fall yet? Any end-of-summer parties or vacations planned?
